INVASIVE SPECIES

In this series I captured invasive, aggressively spreading plant species. I wanted to show changes caused by globalization and human activity through a field which is usually not the centre of attention. Scientists introduced a new geological era, the anthropocene, that shows how big the human influence became on this planet. Our impact is not only detectable in the changes of built environment or the composition of the atmosphere. We changed thoroughly the biological environment we came from. One of the effects of this process is that certain species reach new ecosystems where they gain an advantage over native species and completely change the ecological balance established in millions of years, becoming invasive.
This photo series is an experiment based on scientific foundations. I documented plant species imported from distant continents and introduced to the native landscape. These species can be found at all the city edges and roadside ditches now in Hungary.
I completed the photographs with prints made directly on the leaves of the plants, through the degradation of chlorophyll due to sunlight. These prints represent the native homes of these invasive species on satellite recordings, such as Asia or North-America.
